Greetings. I’m Tim of Govberg, and welcome to the world of Jaeger-LeCoultre. Today, I’ll be your guide to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendezvous Night and Day, 34 millimeters in polished stainless steel. This watch is characterized by a gem set, 60 brilliant diamond bezel, surrounding a summary Guilloché dial with glorious transferred, floral-style arabic numerals. It’s borne on a rectangular scale blue gloss, aligator leather strap with a substantial JL corporate logo inset double deployant steel clasp.

The clasp is all of high polish, inside and out, with not a single square centimeter bearing any of the marks of original manufacturer, either stamping or machining. It speaks to the attention to detail lavished on every square millimeter of the timepiece itself. As the strap gives way to a complex set of lugs featuring alternately barrel rounded outer shoulders and sharp inner character lines, giving the combination of soft, sensuous character and hardened definition.

A strong character line characterizes the flank of the case, giving way to the signature diamond set bezel. All 60 brilliant gems surround an hour track on top of a summary Guilloché, giving way to an inner dial that’s stepped down with minute indices and a focal point at six o’clock, the a.m./p.m. or night and day index, featuring either a blazing sun in beautiful blued material or the moon and the stars, corresponding appropriately to the time of day.

The timepiece is remarkably thin. At only 8.5 millimeters, it qualifies as an ultra-thin, automatic timepiece thanks to the sophisticated manufacture caliber visible through the case back. The timepiece is graced by a Jaeger-LeCoultre in-house caliber 898/1 automatic winding. It features 30 jewels, 204 parts and a 38 hour power reserve. It’s free sprung with ceramic rotor bearings, so it’s both durable and exceptionally efficient in operation.

It’s important to note that the timepiece also features quick-release strap and clasp functions, actuated by the pull tabs underneath the lugs on both straps, easily removable to change the look of the watch and that without resort to a jeweler’s tool. The fourth generation Jaeger-LeCoultre folding clasp also features a quick-release located underneath the folding inner swing arm for rapid transfer to an alternate strap, to change the look of the watch again, without resort to jewelers or tools.
